What kind of shoes should we bring...?

Sorry, this may be a weird question, but I'm really not sure. We're going to be mountain biking, doing the 27 waterfalls and maybe some "canyoning", and probably a little bit of walking around (along with beach-lounging). Oh, and maybe some whitewater rafting.

What kind of shoes are good to bring? Any recommendations? I'm particularly curious about what's good for the 27 waterfalls and canyoning stuff.

Thanks, all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

old training shoes with non-slip rubber grips for waterfalls

light walking around -beach shoes with thick soles - theres lots of stones everywhere

heavy walking around - hiking shoes ot sturdy trainers

red high heels for the evening lol
walking in the sea - something not made out of foam (your feet will float too much)- there may be urchins

canyoning or cascading you need a shoe with a grip. sneakers are fine but you run the chance of ruining them. you can bring an old pair but make sure they aren't dull. I did the 27 charcos with an old pair of sneakers and I was sliding everywhere it made it more difficult. my husband used a pair of light mesh timberland sneakers and he was fine.

as for whitewater rafting you should wear a good pair of water shoes. the raft is inflated so you don?t want to poke it with anything sharp and you want to feel nice and light.

Thanks guys. Based on your suggestions, I'm looking into getting some of these: Salomon techamphibian - mainly because I want to only bring one shoe if I can. This looks like it would do it all, I hope. I don't think we'll be doing any really dramatic hiking, other than going up the falls and/or canyoning. Sound reasonable?

Your question is a little strange, leads me to believe you do not participate in these activities too often..sneakers work wonders!
Neoprene water shoes, are awesome for grip at the falls!! Flip flops are choice for the beach!
have fun

ms lapurr are your feet nude in the sea ...I tend to like something on my feet in case of urchins but it does tend to make your feet too boyant for swimming I suppose you have other boyancy devices that would counter balance the feet lol

Ha! It's true, I don't participate in these activities often - in fact, I've never gone whitewater rafting, canyoning, or done anything like the 27 Charcos hike. Mountain biking, hiking, and beach-lounging, on the other hand, I'm plenty familiar with. But I'm just looking to bring as little as possible - if I can find one shoe that does most of what I need, that's what I want to bring. I won't have that much space to pack multiple pairs of shoes (especially when I wear a size 14). :)

Appropriate Footwear

Hi,

I use a pair of water shoes which are good for waterfalls, rafting and general "out & about" (also for wandering about on river/sea beds). Also a pair of open sandals for the beach and more general "out & about".

Both are lightweight and very comfy although the water shoes get a bit "ripe" if the weather's really hot.

I find that, unless I'm dressing up for going out, the above two more than suffice.

Lapurr, what are Layer shoes? As for bandaids, I'll bring a whole first-aid kit! And I'm a medical student, so I'll have to be extra careful so I can help the others when they eat it.

Reidy, what kind of watershoes (brand-wise) do you use that you like? I've never looked into buying water shoes before, so I feel I'm at a loss. :ermm:

Hi, I got them online (in the UK) from a retailer who specialises in watersports, diving e.t.c., I don't actually know if they are branded :)

Soft uppers with a moulded soft rubber gripped bottom.

They allow you to mooch about in the water without having to worry about getting them wet as they dry out very quickly. The soft bottom allows you to grip slippy surfaces (the deck on the catamaran for example) whilst still protecting your feet & being very comfy to wear.

They range in price from about ?5:00 up to ?20:00 per pair in the UK), but are available worldwide.

Just google water shoes or beach shoes or even aqua shoes Aqua shoes, beach shoes, water shoes & swimming shoes for children & adults and that will give you an idea.

Happy holidays.
