I am piggybacking off of the "Who are the Police , Military etc"

I know of a guy(not personally) who owns a bar and sings karoake once in while and is currently running for "Sindico" Is this the mayor of the town or some sort of city council??

Also since we are on the subject, what is the Hierarchy of politics, ie. councilman, mayor, governor, president?

Yes - sindico is the mayor. Like councillors they are elected. So are presidents. Governors are appointed, I believe, they are the President's representative in a province.

Sindico = Alcalde.
The word Sindico originates from French "Syndic" which replace the word "Maire" (Mayor) and can also be found in Catalan and Valencian "el Sindic".
The word may have carried over into the DR because of it's use of the Napoleonic code (?).

And yes, The province's governors are President appointed in the DR, so I understand.
