quartz or other semi precious stones in PoP?

hi all, i'm new to this board.
we're coming back to puerto Plata et the end of march, our last visit was 5 years ago .

I'm into crystals and semi-precious stones and i'd love to bring home a cluster or something else from DR.

but do they have Quartz there? or only larimar and amber?
i'd love to find out, and also where to buy them?
can i go crystal digging myself?

you can buy raw larimar and amber in most of gift shops, i presume. certainly amber is available in this large shop below amber museum, close to central park.
i bought few pieces of larimar in gift shops close to mercado nuevo, cheap. my friend collects minerals and he usually buys there.
in jewelery shop ask for discount if paying cash. in mercado nuevo haggle - a piece of larimar size of a fist should be less that 10 dollars, depending on quality. i bought one big piece plus small larimar pedant for 200 or 250 pesos.
