I have been to D.R several times but mostly to the Capitol and Boca Chica. I will be traveling to the North Coast this time staying in Cabarete. I will be renting a vehicle. I was just wondering how far a drive is it from Puerto Plata and Sosua. Also what is the nightlife like.

Well – Sosua would be the next town along – about 20 mins, and POP is the next large town after that – again about 20 mins depending on the way you drive.
Nightlife – it depends what you are looking for.
Cab – Cosmopolitan.
Sosua – Can be viewed as a little seedy ( but the wife and I love it! )
POP – A more “real” Dominican experience.

Sosua is full of seedy bars and restaurants of all kinds, it can be fun. Also has nice beach with lots of pesty vendors. More older tourists looking for young female fun.
Cabarete is more of a surfer's town with a bunch of restaurants/bars on the beach next to each other. A step up from Sosua, IMO. More of a younger crowd than Sosua.
