A recipe I am working on calls for GROUND CUMIN. I haven't been able to find it in the supermarkets in Santiago. What is the spanish (Dominican) name for it?

comino is caraway seeds,cumin is another kind of caraway,but i don't know the spanish word for it.

According to my Spanish dictionary Caraway seed is alcaravea in Spanish ans cumin is comino

some trivia....

..taken from "the joy of cooking": caraway is a biennial, carum carvi, whose seeds are similar to cumin in flavour. cumin is an annual, cuminum odorum, and is the principal ingredient of a curry.

so d.d. if you can't locate comino, then ground caraway seeds would be an acceptable substitute.

ground cumin is comino, one of the principal ingredients of chili powder. it is easily found all over the DR. Baldom is one of the local companies that market it.
