A recipe I am working on calls for GROUND CUMIN. I haven't been able to find it in the supermarkets in Santiago. What is the spanish (Dominican) name for it?
..taken from "the joy of cooking": caraway is a biennial, carum carvi, whose seeds are similar to cumin in flavour. cumin is an annual, cuminum odorum, and is the principal ingredient of a curry.
so d.d. if you can't locate comino, then ground caraway seeds would be an acceptable substitute.
ground cumin is comino, one of the principal ingredients of chili powder. it is easily found all over the DR. Baldom is one of the local companies that market it.
