Travel to Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata

If you have never been here before and never driven here then DON"T make this your maiden driving trip. Take the bus (Metro or Caribe tours). They are very modern motor coaches with airconditioning on steriods (can be quite cold). It is about a 4 to 4.5hour trip and much safer and cheaper then renting a car (Cost is about $9)

This is not the drive to make if its your first time. Finding your way out of SD is no joke, neither is the traffic in Santiago. If I were you, I'd take the bus to pop and rent a car from there. Driving on the north coast is much more relaxed.
