Gluten free products

Hi,

I have a friend who has recently moved here and is allergic to gluten. I had a look through previous threads on the subject but they were all at least years old so I was wondering if there had been any progress.

Does anyone know if you can buy gluten free products in Sosua or Puerto Plata?

If you can't find them in Sosua, your friend may have to come and load up here in Santo Domingo. I have seen them in Supermercado Nacional and Natural stores.

Check the health food section (if there is one) at La Sirena in Puerto Plata.

There are some in Tropical Supermarket, Puerto Plata. There's a cane stand opposite the open freezer with chicken produce and behind the stand with sugar, the stand has soya milk, wheat & oatmeal bran, low fat salad dressings, stuff for vegetarians, diabetics, etc. You'll also find some in the other aisles mixed with non-gluten free products - it's a question of reading the labels, rather than expecting everything shelved at that location to be gluten free.
