It's going off the original topic... but I can't agree that there aren't very many Dominicans making use of the internet. I'd actually say it's rather commonly used for personal e-mail, online banking, government websites, reading news, paying business taxes, getting your marbete, university studies, purchasing, research, blogging, chat, business applications, etc, etc.
'For sale" sites like lapulga, mundoanuncio, supercarros, etc seem to get a reasonable amount of usage. No, they aren't on EBay's scale but for a potential market of 8 million vs EBay's worldwide market they seem to do okay - and they're beyond the experimental "hey, let's try this idea for a website" stage with a track record of multiple years of being well maintained and active websites with name recognition.
Yes, the use is limited in the countryside & amongst the poor, but to say it's not used by many Dominicans in daily life is mistaken, I think. Many of my friends/acquaintances even use internet services through their phones.
