I thought Leonel was the president of the D.R. and I thought Preval was president of Haiti.
So why are these 2 presidents (and the rest of the island) being held ransom by some poxy Dominican union dude and some idiotic Haitians trying to scam US$100 per truck at the border?

Regardless of 'who started it', or how stupid the Haitians and Dominicans have been, I can't beleive the Dominican authorities let this Blas Peralta guy dictate "who and where and how" on a matter of sovereignty.
I can totally beleive that the Haitian presidency does not care one way or the other - he is like that. But the Dominicans?

Come on D.R. and Haiti - bang their heads together and get this sorted out.
Stick the buggers in jail if you need to.
Have the army lend a hand.
people are depending on that border being open for their jobs, to feed their kids and to survive.
Same goes for the Haitians - get a bloody grip - you are supposed to be a country - start acting like one!

I am FUMING ANGRY!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Does anybody have the phone number of a transport boat/barge from S.D. to PaP?

The tranport unions have been holding the country for ransom since cars began driving here. Many hotels still cannot have busses to pick up their clients at the airport (e.g. Quality Inn in Santo Domingo and a poster in Rio San Juan a few months ago, who's bus was burned down by the taxis), casinos cannot have shuttles to pick up clients at hotels (Ocean World runs a limited shuttle service and is constantly harassed by the taxi union), and 'free zone' manufactures and exporters can only use union trucks to get cargo to the ports. Construction trucks cannot pick up fill, tosca, or rocks from mines unless they are union trucks. Someone told me in Bavaro now the unions want a percentage of the construction business doing the construction, not just the rights to transportation of the construction materials. I dont blame them, if someone keeps giving in to their demans, I would demand more too.

Yes, the Dominican government allows itself to be held ransom by transport unions, all because of politics. These guys and their families have more votes than a hotel owner.

Those is Gov. a scared of the "Sindicatos" and their voting power etc. so they basically let them do whatever they want. I wish Pres. Leonel would show more "guts" when confronting this mafia group, I mean Unions.

Chip,
you always come good for me!
By the way, this week we sourced some vital stuff through a lead you gave me last time.
I shall pm you once I do the deal and see what the border situation is.

I hope they get this sorted out. There are a lot of innocent people on both sides of the border who are losing out here. Some of them are people who cannot afford to lose out much more.

This stinks of corruption.
