Police nab Dutchman's killer
The National Police has arrested one of several Haitians accused of killing Dutch citizen Jan Versteeg, 65, and of beating and raping his wife, German citizen Therese Versteeg Gbur, 59. The arrest took place in Las Terrenas, Samana.
The police said that the killing occurred last 15 February in the Procab Project in Cabarete, Puerto Plata.
The police said that Haitian Basonord de Camp, 26, was arrested after investigative and intelligence work found him to be living in El Hospital section of Las Terrenas, allegedly claiming that he had just arrived from Haiti.
The National Police said that the arrested man, who had worked as a security guard at the foreign couple's home, together with other Haitians, beat and cut the Dutch citizen in different parts of his body, while his wife was beaten and sexually assaulted and is still hospitalized at the Bournigal Clinic in Puerto Plata.
The Police said that the accused was identified by Ms. Versteeg Gbur as one of her assailants, saying that she knew him well, since he worked as a security guard in her house.
