Dear all!

Is hibiscus grown in this country? Is hibiscus tea (dried flowers) available? North.

Through "search" I found several mentions of "hibiscus". But they were described as "yellow" flowers. In reality it is red.

What about other local spices? Cardamom for instance?

Hibiscus grows all over the place in The DR. Apparently there many varieties of it, but the red one is very common on people's gardens...not sure if they sell it dried for tea per se (I'm sure they do, but I've never seen it sold that way).

I have a fantastic red hibiscus hedge that grew really quickly. It cost me 15 pesos a plant, they were about 12 inches high and grew to 6 feet in less that 12 months! I didn't know you could use the flowers for tea though, that's interesting!

The flower is called cayena and is very common in the DR, but I haven't come across the tea here.

I used to drink hibiscus tea and it is delicious. You could try drying the flowers.

Cardomom isn't really known here. Cinnamon (canela), nutmeg (nuez moscada), allspice (malagueta), ginger (jenjibre) are common.
