I will be moving to the Dominican Republic for a year and stumbled upon Villa Gazcue apartments How are they? is anyone familiar with the neighborhood or lived in or nearby them? Does anyone know the owner? I will be living there with my small family for a year so we need to be pretty sure where we are going to live before we get there.

best,

I live in Gazcue and it's great, been here 5 years. You're close to the Intercontinental, Melia, and Jaragua Casinos, 5 minutes from the colonial zone, and minutes from the US embassy. I don't know anything about Villa Gazcue. Provide an address for the place and I'l ask around.

There is a Villa Recidencial en Gazcue. A small hotel. I sometimes stay there. The owners is a couple. Very nice people. It is on Calle Santiago almost on the corner of Danae.

Nikki,

I would strongly encourage you to go out for a few weeks and do some scouting around prior to moving. If that's not feasible, move in to an aparthotel (like Villa Gazcue) for a short time and walk through some neighborhoods. You should quickly find much more appropriate space (meaning roomier, and more well appointed). Assuming you're bringing some furniture and appliances, you could do quite well and save some money (or at least break even).

A good starting point is the RE-rental section on this site. When you go to look at those properties, you should see quite a few others for rent in the neighborhood as well. I'd ask a native speaker to do the calls, so you don't pay the gringo tax.

Good luck!
