Translated News Item:
A nationality investor Belgian was found dead inside his residence located in the tourist sector of Stops of Cofres?, gaged and with blows in different parts from his body.

I guess we need a "Government" definition and list,
of what constitutes a crime in the tourist areas.

It appears murder and/or robbery is not on the list.

You know...with all due respect to the victim and the family...that is a profession I wouldn't want to have in the DR - PRESTAMISTA. That's like having a freaken bounty on your head 24/7. This is really sad and what's even worst, probably the authorities had something to do with it. Hopefully not and hopefully they find who did this and justice is served.

Thanks for clearing that up Lambada. But do you agree on how dangerous being a prestamista is? I think anyone would. Not an easy occupation.

Certainly not an occupation for gringos (been there, done that as a blissfully ignorant newbie, got out pronto when I discovered the ........er retrieval methodology :ermm:).

Not to go off topic, Mr. Van Esbroeck's murder is now in the national papers:

Matan a palos y pu?aladas a un ciudano belga en Puerto Plata :: CLAVE digital

La Rep?blica - Desconocidos matan a inversionista belga en Puerto Plata

Often not reported at all

_murder is now in the national papers:

Yes, it usually takes a few days for up-country incidents to make it to the national papers (if at all).
As radio news had it today a Spanish lady was robbed (40,000 RD$) and killed in Santiago today.
Let's see how quick we learn about it from papers....

Profound condolences to you and your sister. I did not know your father personally and have no further information but if you send a private message to the poster buttons66, she said above that she was a friend of a friend of your father's, so she might be able to put you in touch with that person. The newspaper reports aren't saying anything you don't already know. I assume you are in touch with your Consular representative? I think this is Mr. Frederic Meurice who can be located at 207 Padre Billini, Ciudad Colonial, D.N. Santo Domingo Tel: 809-687-2244 Fax: 809-221-7369 Email: consuladobelgica@dona-elvira.com

Again, profound condolences. This is a dreadful thing to have happened.

I knew your Dad, and just spoke with him over the weekend. This is so very tragic, my most sincere condolences. We used to live above him at the apartment on calle guyacanes in costambar. He has a beautiful little girl too and besides his daughter I guess you were his son that used to ride the Yamaha 750 around. May God be with you and your family at this time.

I am really sorry to hear of your loss. A terrible tragedy. I live in Cofresi so it is very concerning. The motive seems to have been robbery, can you confirm this? The reason I ask is, because as usual, there is 'local gossip' about other possible scenarios that might have lead to this crime.
