We plan on snorkling near Sosua in Jan -Feb and mar.

Would we need a shorty wetsuit ?

Depends on how cold you get. My wife would use shortie. Me...maybe but probably not.

you also have to think about sunburn...I use a t shirt when i snorkle, but I dont actually go under the water

Yes

You could get by without one but after 30 minutes or so in the water you will be chilled uncomfortably. Of course you could always get out for a bit, warm up, and then go back in. It also depends on how much body fat you have. Lots of fat will keep you warm. If you are skinny you will be cold.

I'm with JR on this one. The wife and I can snorkel for an hour or more without a wet suit but I need to have a shirt on to prevent sunburn if I'm out to long
