Hiya all ....

Sorry to drag this back into the limelight but I have a Q which I'm not sure has been answered.

Been told by a colleague that whatever the kWh for the month comes to, you pay the whole charge based on the tier that the usage falls into.

My question to him was - if the monthly kWh is, say, 320 kWh, do you pay 20 kWh @ 5.81pesos then the remaining 300 kWh at 3.70 pesos (1226 pesos) or do you pay the whole 320 kWh @ 5.81 pesos (1859 pesos).

My friend says that the whole bill is charged @ 5.81 pesos/kWh. I thought that the first 20kWh was @5.81 etc

Anybody confirm or deny this? We've only really started paying attention as we have had electric meter fitted and want to be up to speed on costs.

As always, thanks in advance.

Not true, its not all at the tariff rate it falls into unless you exceed 700kwh, at which time, yes it is all at the highest tariff. That is why the difference between 699 and 700 is about 4000 pesos.

Up to 700kwh consumption each bracket is at that amount, so the amount per kwh is different. Confused? hope not.

What you say is not true.

First, it's not the 700th kWh that is "expensive", but rather 701st kWh.
The 600's bracket includes 601-700, the 700's bracket (all-one-rate) starts at 701st kWh (for reference, see link below).

As for the difference of 4000 pesos - it's RD$1,546 actually for the cost of 701 kWh as opposed to 700 kWh, that includes most recent rate increases.

You can do the math - http://www.sie.gov.do/archivos/resoluciones/Resolucion Sie-47-2009.pdf page 5 for most current tariffs in BTS1 rate scale (most people are on BTS1).
