I don't know if this has been discussed already, but I just found out about it. I use Vonage and now they have included the Dominican Republic in their World Plan. It doesn't include calls to cell phones, of course, but it does allow you to call land lines here.

There are many other countries that have been added as well. All for $24.95 per month.

Thanks for the information.

I already had Vonage so I switched plans and also did the Pre-pay of one year to save 20%.

The monthly fee was the same as I was already paying !!!!!!!!!

With all the taxes, etc., I end up paying $26.92 average per month.
I was previously paying $33.88 a month.

I just never got around to doing the yearly prepay, but this was the incentive to do it.

And with my extra adapter that I already have, I can always switch to it and call anywhere in the D.R. (Landlines) for free now.

Thanks again.

VONAGE WORLD PLAN UPDATE..........FYI..........

After reading this post, I decided that I was going to have one of my US lines changed to VONAGE for the main purpose of forwarding it to my number here in Puerto Plata so that US callers could call me for FREE since Vonage says any LANDLINE in the DR is free.

Before making the switch I had asked Don (SantiagoDR) and ANT if they could test call my number in Puerto Plata (809-970.....) since I know that METRO PCS also has the same CLAIM TO FAME, but it won't allow calls FREE to 809-970......... saying it's a cell phone and not a landline........

Sure enough, when the calls were made, the cost was 18cents per minute....

I decided to get Vonage anyway since we also have family in Neyba etc and those calls were free...........

It was installed in September and I immediately starting calling Vonage saying that the 809-970...exchange should be FREE.....they kept saying there was nothing they could do about it etc...........

FINALLY, I had enough and filed a complaint with the FCC for false advertising yesterday morning by FAX........and sent a copy to VONAGE.....

As of today, 809-970........... CAN NOW BE CALLED FOR FREE...........and I received the following email from Vonage this evening:

Dear xxxxxxxxxxxxxx,

We have addressed your concerns.
The Website and system have been corrected.

SO, the point of this post is..................

1. VONAGE WORLD PLAN IS EXCELLENT FOR ANYONE THAT WANTS TO CALL LANDLINES IN THE DR.

2. IF YOUR LANDLINE DOES NOT GO THROUGH AS FREE, CONTACT THE PEOPLE ABOVE OR FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE FCC VIA EMAIL OR FAX.......

POP Bad Boy, can you please PM me the address of the person who sent you this email form Vonage.... there are lots of prefixes which are landline but are shown by Vonage as cellphones... Thx.

http://www.indotel.gob.do/component/option,com_docman/Itemid,0/task,doc_download/gid,2358/

.....but I'll tell you.............I looked at the list that you posted and I bet there are quite a few numbers that they don't have correct...........

Who knows if he'll be able to do it, but if not, a list like that forwarded to the FCC with a complaint would almost insure that it would be done.........

They probably added mine just to appease me and be able to put that one complaint to rest..........since they have to respond to it.....

If you already have VONAGE and haven't been able to call certain numbers before, check out the following page before going through the trouble of filing a complaint etc.........

Vonage - Residential Calling Plans - Vonage World

On the upper right side of the page, there is a "RATE FINDER".....Enter in the number and see if it says FREE now.........I noticed that after they corrected my "970" problem that other numbers that I had tried before, specifically "809-586" and "809-261" now come up FREE too.....(which they should)....enter the number with a "1809........" and see what happens.

MAYBE, they updated the whole system........
