This morning at Bistro Marianna here in Juan Dolio while checking my emails etc I was asked to act as a translator for 2 Americans who got jacked up last night by 2 cueros.
They met the 2 last night just talked a little bit then took off to the casino where they met up again. They had some drinks, then went to Mango's to do some dancing and after that they went to their hotel rooms with the 2 girls.
The 2 guys woke up in the morning with a very heavy head realizing that they've been robbed. Apparently they were drugged because they don't even remember having sex with the girls and it took them almost 2 hrs to come to their senses. They had their money about RD30G, camera's and Iphones in the safe in one of their rooms which is a safe with a key lock. Apparently while they were knocked out the cueros took the key and opened the safe and took what they could take. They also took a box of Cohibas. Thank God for the Gringos their wallets with CC cards and passports were still there.
Even though these 2 guys are not the normal square guys that come here they were still jacked up because they let their guard down.
I asked them when they go out in NYC, where they're from, if they would ever leave their drinks unattended both of them answered "no f.....g way"!!!!
So hopefully this serves as a lesson to them as well as to any other lonely soul that is looking for some hanky panky here in the DR.
Have 2 sets of ears and eyes otherwise you will get screwed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It looks like "Las Dormilonas" are acting up again. Las "Dormilonas" are a group of "mujereses bagabundases"* which their main goal is to drug the victim and then rob everything from him except the socks y cuidao. Normally the preferred way to drug their victim is to mix the drug with the beer, the "cueros" take a mouthfull of it without swallowing it, to then proceed and kiss the victim while traspassing to them the stained beer. As you can see for an excited tourist who is looking to get some action in the DR, that invitation is just irresistible, the last thing in their mind is to wonder if the beer has been drugged. I know of a case in which they put a Dominican York to sleep to then steal RD$200,000.00 from him.

*Mujereses Bagabundases = Mujeres Bagabundas = Low life hookers.

Beer swapping? Is that like gum swapping when you're 14? When at the bar, think with the head on your shoulders (I know it's tough)

If you leave your seat, take your drink (don't leave your life in the hands of your wingman). If you leave your drink, dump it upon your return and get a fresh one...try to make sure the bartender open your beer in front of you....I usually ask to open my own.

If the girl you're with doesn't swallow.....find another one.

This is going to sound ignorant, but I can't believe this happens to guys these days. What I can't figure out is who on this Earth is so captivated by a female that he reqlinquishes all trust to a complete stranger. Especially in a foreign environment where you don't even speak the language.

I bartended through college and grad school and this was over 13 years ago. EVEN THEN I used to tell "drunk or buzzed" customers to take their drink or finish it first if you're going to hit the head or take a walk.

This reminds me of a recent thread where this cat was in Turks and Caicos and wrote to the blog about falling for a waitress. After a week or a few days she was asking for phone cards and other misc items. The guy was whole-heartedly writing the blog to spot-check his take on the situation. I was amazed that guys still think the bar-chicks, strippers, other hospitality workers, etc. actually fall for the fat, bald tourists that wander in daily!!

I am married now over 2 years here, but before that I was "playing the field" for quite some time. I remember some cuero I met at Barrica on Venezuela in Zona Oriental. I was nice a buzzed up, but with my local friends so I felt comfortable.

Long story short, I met her out at the MegaCentro the next night. We were eating and having drinks when she leaned over and said "I want to have sex with you". I simply pretended to get a call on my cell, walked outside the restaurant in search of a "signal" and kept walking right out the door and into a taxi.

I'm almost 39 and this was 3 years ago, but I was soooo tempted to hit a Cabana right then and there. You just "know better". Most sane minds can think 2 or 3 steps ahead. If you don't, you're f---ed :)

I know is Vagabundas, but in the slang world (which I know you are not part of) They call them bagagundas, or bagabundases as a slang of a slang. Tell the word to a Dominican and if he doesn't stop laughing before 2 minutes I will send you a check of a check for $US100,000.00 Pesos if he doesn't understand what i meant with that word.

Vagabundases may be a slang word but writing vagabundas with a B is not slang though.

This is spot on. Many Dominicans seem to use the B (when writing) when the word begins with a "V". I guess this stems from childhood where one heard the hard V which sounds like "b".

I remember in Spanish class the use to tell us to pronounce the "v" like a "b" (from Castellano). BUT in NO way does this mean you are free to subsitute the "V" with a "B".

On the other hand, my wife confirms that many do, in fact, use the construction "vagabundasES" - which I thought looked and sounded rather ignorant.
