As the work of AAAS progresses with more visiting vets throughout November, December and January, new volunteers are sought to assist with the increasing projects.

Here is the message from President, Judy Liggio:

"AAAS Newsletter and Schedule for Volunteers and others who would like to be a part of our Animal Humane projects.

As you read the following ?to do? list take a moment and think about what makes you feel good. Ask any of our volunteers - those that take the time to put in the hours and/or donate in other ways.
It?s work, it?s effort and sometimes a little painful but in the end we all find a little happiness.
Thanks
Judy

November 2009

9th Thru 14th
Dr. Diane Levitan returns and will be joined by another new vet, Dr. Carl Singer.
Work week will be 10th thru 14th
We are going to keep this low key. We are planning on sterilizing 10-15 animals per day in house.
This is a good time to work on and develop skills and protocols It is also a great time to train new volunteers.
Joanne and Oscar from World Woof Tours will be joining us.
World Woof Tour

This is an opportunity to show the world that people and animals can share the same space and be happy.

We need someone from the community to help coordinate the documentary to show that when everyone works together, we can change things for the better.

The streets of Sosua are proof that Trap Neuter Release programs do work when the community is involved.

21st,22nd,23rd

West Indies Realty is a special friend of the animals. They have been sponsoring and working on a theatre production of ?Wait Until Dark? to be presented on these nights.
Local community members have been working hard and having fun getting ready for this presentation.
We would like to show our support not only by attending but also by offering some help during the nights of the presentations. People will also have the option to purchase just theatre or dinner theatre tickets. The dinner will be at the Waterfront.
Please see the attached promotion for information on how to contact the administrator to purchase tickets and to help.
I am looking forward to ?something different?, how about you?

December 2009

1st- 8th ( working dates to be confirmed).

The return of Dr. Frank Alfano. He will be in house sharing his expertise and experince working with street dogs. This will be a good time to test our continued growing improvements with our projects and skills in the clinic.

January 2010

Dr. Busch and Ines, our favorite German vets return for field clinics (Dates to be announced)

As more international vets hear about our program, we have an increased need for community involvment.
We want to show visiting vets how much we appreciate their efforts to help us here in the DR. It gives us an opportunity to share the island experience. In turn, we remember why we choose to live here.
All visiting vets would love to get to know the people who live here and explore the Island.

Any type of ?get together?, whether a day trip or evening entertainment, would be especially helpful in making their visit one to remember and perhaps inspire them to return.
So please feel free to submit ideas! We would also welcome a volunteer - someone to coordinate leisure activity. This is an area in which AAAS could use your help as projects grow and develop.

Another way to help is by assisting AAAS with temporary housing plus or minus meals. We are working on an available list of hotels, condos, villas or small apartments or houses that could be made available for their use. We can work around the schedules of vacant properties in the area. They could be anywhere from the beach to the compo.
Thanks to the many of you who have offered to and are currently working with us on housing schedules, this has already sparked a great interest and many excellent veterinarians are returning. These vets, who have many friends in other countries, may help promote future rentals for your property.

Thank you all for your continued help and support."

if a demo of us would help in the form of entertainment we will be pleased to help...

mind you... if this demo is in the evening we would need some place to stay, together with our dogs (we never seperate when we are on the move)

That is a wonderful offer, Peter, and we will be in touch to discuss further. Thank you.
