La puerta e cerrado pero no (padlocked). Knock hard and someone will come. Llamar just doesn't give the right note.Does it mean shout in a loud voice. telephone or bash the metal garden gate to pieces?

"Llamar" would be an OK verb to in this case, I'd say it's the ideal way, but it's not commonly used colloquialy. Usually as bob saunders said, "tocar fuerte" is used it's correct, formal and nice.

Actually, I would not say that.

Just say: Favor tocar duro.

Why tell anyone it is closed by not locked???
