I've recently been bitten by the boating bug and I am loving every minute on the water.

I have a 17' Dominican built speedboat which is a real hoot. It is on a trailer which can easily be launched with only two people. My favourite spot is La Boca just outside Cabarete.

I have now been contemplating the next step. An upgrade. Initially I thought about an engine upgrade, but then I stumbled on this website Puerto Rico Boats for Sale It's a bit like supercarros, but for Puerto Rico.

The prices of boats there is almost half of what you would pay here. So that got me thinking. I am looking at something like a 20 foot speedboat. For instance there is a Bayliner Capri going for $8,000. I thought about going over there on the ferry with my jeep and towing it back here.

Does anyone have any experiences with this? How easy would it be to get the boat legalised here? What sort of import duty could I expect? Would aduanas stop me at the port at Santo Domingo and impound the boat?

Any ideas?
