I have read a number of posts here on the difficulty of setting up a system of security cams....

well, for those interested... I have set up a system with Cisco Linksys... and it is easy as hell... a wireless router (do not take there basic one, as its reach is not far enough...) and their camera's....

You have to set up each camera on its own, which takes about 5 minutes per camera... but then it works perfectly.... and with their easylink advisor, you can check them being online every second...

price per camera... around 100$... the basic router is around 60$, but still have to check on the more professional one...

you can view up to 16 camera's at the same time...

We have the same setup............

with Dlink router and Dlink DCS-920 wireless cameras..........which can be setup to be viewed over the internet from anywhere...........

.........they also work fine............
we also use a dyndns.org free hosting service, since IP addresses keep changing with codetel should your router go off or you reset it.................

My assumption would be your banda ancha has a dynamic IP address. You'd need a static IP. We had to pay extra for a static IP on out Codetel DSL. I streamed live music from my bar in the states with D-Link security came and needed a static IP.

As popbadboy said, one can use dyndns.org or similar to provide dynamic dns.
You'll end up with a domain something like http://cobraboy.dyndns.tv

You'll have a small program that contacts their machine when you boot up & their server redirects any http inquiries to your machine. You can also ftp to the machine using the address, or ping it from remote locations to get the actual current IP of your machine. Works like a charm & is free.

.......the whole purpose of dyndns.org etc is to provide this service to people that have a DYNAMIC IP...........

........therefore you don't have to pay the extra for a STATIC IP.

Yes.............

I knew what you meant, but I didn't think the relationship between a STATIC IP and DYNAMIC IP was clear in your post for people that don't know exactly what we're talking about............

........didn't mean anything by it........just trying to make it clearER for people that may search these posts later on when they're trying to do the same.....

Sorry ............

almost ready to go

Thanks POP and CFA, I registered, got the domain-name, and have some more figuring out to do, before I can go life (how do people connect from external comps...)

Reason is the internet was very slow... and it takes ages to download a page... guess that will be my prob as well with the uploading... but will give it a try...

So we have acira.dyndns.ws...but thats it. We alway's get a time out when trying to open it. It seems to me that the ISP adress is blocking everything but I do not find a way around it.
