Few questions about DR

I'm a Dominican moving back to DR, I'll be moving over there to pursue a college education, because, well, It's a great opportunity to experience my culture.

But I have a few questions, and here they go:

First of all, how can I get my extremely expensive butterfly knife into the country, I don't want to put it in checked luggage, as I am sure it will be stolen.
If I ship it, will it get past customs?

How can I ensure that whatever degree I decide on will be useful and accredited in the US?

How easy is it to get new car parts and computer parts?

And lastly, are there unlimited cell and data plans available?

Some answers:

Butterfly knife - the best way will be putting it in your checked baggage. Shipping it is a whole lot more risky!

Degree - depends on the program and the university. Check before you decide what course to take and where. HB had a lot of info on universities.

Car parts - if you are talking about the types of cars you see on the road all the time ie Toyota corolla - no problem, typical jeepeta parts, no problems. If you are talking Lexus, or BMW - a lot harder and more expensive.

Computer parts - again depend - but most are fairly available.

Unlimited cell and data plans - available but expensive!
