A little Dickie Bird told me they are on their way, with more to follow.
Let's see, never been to a Chilis.

I also heard the Blue Mall is going to kick a$$!
March or April 2010 opening date.

Also, Plaza Central is still the #1 mall in Santo Domingo in terms of buyers and yield.

Amazing what you learn over a few beers :)

Chili's... not bad. Better than TGIF's in my opinion.
Start with the southwestern eggrolls followed by some steak & shrimp fajitas...

And hooters... wings, beer, sports, & hooters' girls :glasses:

So far my experience with large chain restaurants here in the DR is that they bear little resemblance to their American counterparts in terms of food quality. I recently tried a burger at Tony Roma's and it was vile. And where do they get the cheese they use in this country? I've given up on restaurants... I just cook for myself.

I did try the Friday's at Acropolis a couple of years back. Way over priced for the quality of food. Of course that's my opinion, but I never went back. It will be interesting though to see how Hooters ends up.

I'm hearing good things about Outback under a new owner.

I still think Chef Pepper offers a good deal.

Friday's is horrible. Been there three times and had bad service and bad food, all three times. Way over priced, bad food and bad service. Plus it's where the losers go hang out at night. Who in their right mind spends RD$300 pesos on a hamburger? Chain US restaurants aren't the same here. Low end places like Chili's are considered great because there is a novelty involved. Quiznos and Papa John's are two, strip mall, type of places. Nothing special. No different than a pizza hut or Subway, but it's marketed here like it's food a la cart.

You're right, but don't you mean haute cuisine? Some here have even tried to persuade us that Fridays=la creme de la creme. :D

That's what's funny to me. I think Dominicans, here, equate quality with high costs. "If it's expensive, then it must be good." I vowed never to return to Friday's. Went to Papa Johns once, and I'll never go back and the last time I was at McDonald's was more than a year ago. It's helped my health though, that I don't eat this fast food garbage....

At Acropolis my favorite restaurant there is on the first floor (kind of the basement I guess) on the side. It is called Fry and Grill or something to that effect. Decent prices and every time have had really good meals, with very cold beers or nice drinks. Been to TGIF a couple of times (My sister is one of those Dominicans who loves this place) and agree nothing special. As a matter of fact I would prefer an Applebees if it existed. This "cuisine" is all generic stuff, but I'm sure they will do great in The DR because they are foreign chains and therefore "Cool".

Hooters girls wear tight little uniforms reminiscent of the Playboy bunnies of old. They look really uncomfortable and the flesh colored opaque stockings and cleavage enforcing tops don't do much for the wearers. The food is bar food of the worst kind (hot wings, nuclear wings, slabs of burnt meat from various animals and fries. Lots of fries).

The hook is the girls go from table to table, chatting up the customers and pouring from the pitcher every time a customer takes a sip of beer. Draft beer is how Hooters stays in business and the girls encourage consumption of mass quantities as part of their job description.

Better take a taxi.

ahhh nothing like GOOD wings. It's been soooo long. When I was (how old?) a junior at Clemson, there was a joint that opened up outside of town called "Chief's Wings and Firewater". Like 10 different flavors and heat levels. Wednesdays were the wing-eating contest nights (read as: no class on Thursday). Up here on the North Coast, all we have are greasy alitas fritas :(
