A few of us were sitting under a palm tree on the beach today and this question came up (we all had our own opinions) Are the airports at POP and SD, owned by, or just operated by, a Mexican company? We realize that certain people on DR1, can answer this question for us. The Presidente stakes are high! Help please.

Thanks

Aerodom is not owned or operated by Mexicans my dear.
Are you sure you are not thinking of the telephone company, Claro?

Aerodom, with a 30-year government concession, privatized 6 airports in the DR in 2000, and the shares were all sold to Advent, a large private equity firm based in New York, in Sept of 2008. Advent manages those and other Latin American airports through a holding company, based in Mexico City. The Reader's Digest version.

Thank you, the mystery is now solved. Our "under the palm tree group" can now collect their bets. So we have Mexican company operating POP. Is this arrangement similar to the company that operates LHR and other European airports? I've often wondered why we get hammered by DR taxes when using POP. Does this have anything to do with the Mexican operating company or are the higher POP taxes, a result of the DR government?
