I am about to book flights for a trip in Feb. We are staying in Las Galeras and need to know which has a shorter travel time to there; Santiago or Santo Domingo?

Saman? El Catey International Airport (IATA: AZS, ICAO: MDCY), also called Aeropuerto Internacional Presidente Juan Bosch (AISA), is a new international airport that opened on 6 November 2006, serving the province of Saman? in the Dominican Republic.
1 hour from Las Galeras.

Santiago is closer than Santo Domingo but is about 6 hours away from Las Galeras in good traffic.

If you can't fly into El Catey, fly into SDQ and take the new highway which is almost a direct shot to Samana, then an easy drive to Las Galeras, between 1.5-2 hours or so. Santiago is physically closer but there's no direct driving route to Samana.

SDQ sounds the way to go then. Unfortunetly El Catey would be $1535 USD per person versus $347 USD each to SDQ. Anybody know how much a commuter flight is from there? Just curious.
