Does anyone have a "ballpark" figure on what it cost to ship a 20 foot container of furnishings from NYC to the DR?

Look up Montero Shipping. They have a banner running on DR1 and you will also find 4-5 reviews from very happy customers on the message board.

Only $1,200? I'm surprised. We paid a ton more. We shipped a 40-feet contained three years ago; not full but we couldn't fit everything in a 20-foot. We paid $10,000 (including packing and insurance). A 20-foot container would've cost us less, but not half. We were told the final cost was calculated based on size/weight formula.

Could be correct. My stuff costs $2200 from Tampa to Haina and that includes trucking it from Tampa to Miami and a few other things.

Our 40 foot was about $4-5,000 last year from Philadelphia to Caucedo thru NYC
Hispaniola freight in SDQ
20 foot shouldbe about $3-4,000

Use Caucedo if you can. Easy access, faster, cheaper.
