You might look into buses too. We took a Metro bus to Santo Domingo. It costs around $10 USD. Takes 4 hours going through Santiago. Comfortable bus. Once at station in Santo Domingo it costs around $25-$30 to airport.

Your best bet is by bus.Both Metro and Caribitours have depots in sosua and Puerto Plata and they both have service to SD. Caribitours runs more frequently. So take a cab from the airport to the bus the bus to SD then a cab to the airport. It is a reliable and affordable way to get there.

Quoted rate appears to be $250 USD one way. You might be able to negotiate around $200. Bus is much cheaper but takes twice as long (and wear a jumper on the bus as the air-con is cranked up very high).
