Heading to Sosua in February... What is the best way to travel to Santiago? Also, how is Santiago compared to Sosua? Thanks!

Caribe or Metro buses. That is the best and easiest way to go. Santiago is a city and not oriented to tourists and a basic knowledge of Spanish is a must. There are some decent night life places to check out. As far as finding stuff to do during the day, you can walk around Calle Del Sol and the main downtown business district. Centro Leon, a museum would be another good spot. But at Centro Leon, no shorts and wear a collared shirt.

Frank, thanks... I prefer not to dress like a typical tourist (wink), bcuz I don't dress that way in the United States. Just looking forward to a wonderful vacation with the awesome people of the RD.

Yeah the bus service is on the Highway on the Los Charimicos side of town. It is very cheap and they use too much air conditioning.

Santiago is BIG compared to Sosua. If you are up that way you may want to check out Jarabacoa which is suppose to be one of the prettiest areas in the DR. Lots of waterfalls.

Just keep in mind that Jarabacoa is a 45 minute drive from Santiago. They aren't that close. Caribe tours can also take you there.
