Rat problem

I have been frustrated since last night. I have an unwelcomed guest in my house, a medium size rat. he has stayed the night in my bathroom (only bathroom with hot water). Now i am locked out of the bathroom and forced to take cold showers in my bedroom bathroom. he walks slow and doesn't seem to be afraid of me. I put a hotdog piece on a standard mouse trap that kills the bastard the moment he takes the bite off the meat. To my shock, he was able to take off the meat from the trap without tripping it. then he left the meat there for me on the floor. I guess he is not into nathen's hotdogs. how typical of a dominican rat.
Not only he has insulted my favorite hotdog, he has invaded my bathroom and has me thrown out. Now I am even afraid to step on my floor because the creature comes out of everywhere; under the sofa and bed. he has shown me that I can run but I can't hide. So after a few hours of cat and mouse game, I had decided to declare a full fledged war on him. I went to the local hardware store to see what the expert has to say about my problem. I was referred to the local tigre / sales person. After listening to my detailed description of the events. he assured me that i was dealing with an old rat. A rat who has lost his quickness and is on his last leg before he kicks the bucket. But I was not about to wait till he falls down from his natural death. I want my bathroom back now. So upon his recommendation, I bought the rat poison which should kill the intruder in minutes. I sprinkled some behind the fridge and behind the oven, even behind the sofa. Then all of the sudden I saw the rat come out from under the sofa and walk into bathroom for his afternoon beauty nap. I had already sprinkled some in the bathroom as well. so i quickly closed the door on him. He was trapped. I saw him from under the door that he was trying to figure out how to escape. he was just too big to slide from under the door. then after 3 hours I opened the door, thrilled to see, he had eaten the poison. now he was rolled behind the garbage basket, presumed dead. So i slowly approached him but as I got near, he moved. i, instantly, ran out the door and closed the door. I figured he had just eaten the poison so i will give him more time before i make his funeral arrangements. Now its 12am and I am hearing something eating away my bathroom door. God, is he still alive? Did he eat the blue poison pills like viagra pills and actually became more stronger?
I am confused. Will I take a cold shower in the morning or will he be dead before dawn? I slipped in more poison from under the door. the scratching sound has stopped for now. Is he vomiting? Or is he just faking his death until i open the door and he jumps to attack me?
My question is: how long does it take for the rat to die after eating the poison?
the poison look exactly like the blue tadalafil 20 mg (cialis formula) domincian pills. I better hide the poison in a safe place before I get confused and take one by mistake.

you probably have more than one. poison can be a problem because they might die in an inconvenient place and you won't find them.

put a couple of traps out and they'll be gone within a week.

Hahaha..... Sorry to hear about your dilema. I would also recomend the traps, but make sure you get the bigger "rat traps" and then bait them with peanut butter. They do enjoy their peanut butter for a short time. Hopefully that will help you out. ;)

Yes it sounds like an old rat but it could very possibly be someone's pet rat -the taking of the meat without snapping the trap could be a trick he has learned.

But seriously it's ok to use your normal bathroom. The rat won't join you in the shower, and even if he does, he won't use much of your hot water.

I also thought he was someone's pet rat. He looked clean and well mannered.
But but, a rat is a rat to me.
I want him dead! I want his family dead!
Lets see if the poison will work by tomorrow.

Well, he's definitely not a Sosua rat, possibly from the nice areas of Santiago, hahaha.

If the rat's that slow, just throw a bucket over it, then nicely slide a piece of cardboard under it, trapping it, then you can easily discard him outside.

If you're afraid of using a baseball bat on your new roommate, then go down to the corner and find a 12 year old dominicano, give him the bat, take him back to your house, and tell him you have 200 pesos waiting for him when he carries the dead rat out of your front door. You'll both be happy, and he won't hesitate.:bunny::bunny:

Failing that, the best rat poison are the square blue tropical wax blocks which are about 1.5" x 1.5" x 0.75" thick. Rats love them, and it knocks them out very fast. They work by consumption versus body weight, so if your pet dog eats one, it won't harm them. These are also good prevention used outside in the garden on a regular basis. Just tuck them in dark little corners or holes around the perimeter of your house, and the rats will find them. Good luck AZB.

Next time you have a rat problem put some peanut butter on instead of hotdog or cheese. We have rats in one of our hangars at work and peanutbutter seems to work best.

i think this is a high class rat. miesposo says that someone matching this description went with him to PUCIMM, he was one of the best in class and he graduated with honours. why, i saw him myself in TGIF and he seems to hang out a lot in the best of santiago's bars. he probably recognized you and thinks you share the same values and views on life in DR.
i think you should definitely approach him. make it casual. he is obviously interested since he showed up at you step first. you may be missing you chance to mingle with the cream of the crop of dominican society, you know.

Go with the rat trap, and bait with either peanut butter, or melted chocolate. Don't worry about the rat vomiting the poison, they can't what goes down stays down.

As DV8 says this is obviously one of the upper class rats other wise it would not be having anything to do with you. Definitely not one of the barrio chopo rats. It's just looking for its comfort level in a new companion.

The English, the Russians and now the Yankees could not defeat Pashtuns or even slow them down much.

But a geriatric rat...........? :hurt::D:dead:

Put a damp metal 4" x 4" plate on the floor with a 110V line attached, take a piece of sushi and insert the other line of the 110 v into it and place next to plate so he has to step on plate to get fish, after he "sizzles," skin him and have lunch.

Oh yeah, don't hold wet plate and sushi at same time :)

With all the sad news about the earthquake I have to say I quite enjoyed this thread. AZB great initial story and the rest such good, solid, hilarious advice. I look forward to what happens next to the old rat.

This should have been an easy fix. Pay some kid to catch the rat and humanely put him outside to go find a new home or borrow someones cat for a few hours and buy the cat a nice box of food when hes done working.

just get a cat, that will get rid of your problem. and if you don't want a cat just get a friend to lend you their cat for a few days. I once had this rat in my house that just wouldn't go away, then a friend of mine was going on vacation and wanted me to take care of her cat for a few days, needless to say i never saw that rat again.
