In its Tropical Weather Outlook on Monday, the National Hurricane Center of the USA says there is a broad area of low pressure located over the central tropical Atlantic about midway between the coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles could develop into a hurricane this week. NHC says conditions are increasingly conducive for development of this system and a tropical depression or tropical storm is likely to form within the next day or two while moving westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph.
The forecast is for this system to begin affecting portionsof the Lesser Antilles on Wednesday or Wednesday night. The Dominican Republic is further to the west in the Greater Antilles, but is also on the path of this new tropical storm or hurricane.
