The High Commission for the Prevention and Control of Coronavirus established that starting Monday, 27 July 2020, Covid-19 rapid response blood tests will be required of all arriving passengers. The exception are passengers who arrive with a certificate showing they have tested negative for Covid-19 within the previous five days. The Dominican Republic is undergoing a spike in the spread of the virus. The tests are being applied by Dominican government medical staff at international airports and will cause delays in clearing the terminals.

The largest international airport operator, Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) is the first to announce on its Facebook page that government medical teams have been stationed at operating airports to carry out the tests of incoming passengers.

“We ask for cooperation in respecting the physical distance in the lines and...

I am very surprised people are not reacting to this. How will this affect air travel into the DR? Is this actually law?

Maybe because we are used to it being BS. Like the forms to fill in that nobody cares about including the new Covid-19 form which we heard was introduced now in July but in some cases nobody saw it or it ended up on the floor or something.

Every other country is doing the same and the arrivals expect it.

Honestly, it probably has no effect given the large numbers of community spread cases. It would matter if they were able to get the epidemic under control.

Many islands in the Caribbean that have slowly opened up have been doing this since the beginning of July...lots of people have been let in with little or no restrictions like the taking of the temperature or that worthless medical form...if this story pans out there goes the tourist sector but hopefully less contagion...and to think that all of this should have been implemented back in March but the PLD government was to busy campaigning during the first curfew...goodbye crooks...

I personally wish they would have implemented this procedure July One when they opened the damn airports back up after 4 months of closure but that's a mute the point because they didn't. Moving forward, I believe the SPIKE in positive cases we find ourselves with today is mostly due to the recent elections, and primarily the campaigning that went on two weeks prior but cannot help but think of how many cases came in with the masses flooding home after being locked out.

I would love to see the number of positive cases trapped by the new measure of testing on arrival but not sure those numbers will ever be made public.

Stay safe all and wear a damn mask!

Have checked other Dominican papers like Noticias SIN, El Nacional, Al Momento etc and the news is legit...this government gets a F-- for the handling of this crisis...one other reason for loosing the elections...thank goodness...

Maybe its like an international recommended thing from the WHO and the US. The DR does not seem to do anything before there is outside pressure and bad international press.

Just when you thought the Dominican Republic could not possibly demonstrate a higher level of ineptitude in the embarrassing incompetence they demonstrate on a daily basis in the manner in which they stumble through "managing" this pandemic, they come up with this nonsense.

Let's see how this latest chapter in their never ending foolishness plays out.

This is what tourists can now expect when arriving to the DR.

A medical test, whether a finger stick, blood draw or nasal swab, administered by whom? A certified, qualified and properly trained medical technician following standardized sanitary and sterility protocols for handling passengers' bodily fluids, some of which will qualify as biohazards, in a country that can't even provide potable water for it's populace ? ? ?

And this foolish requirement to have a certificate proving a negative "Covid-19" result within the last five days for those wishing to avoid the above mentioned folly.

PLEASE . . .

What will be the qualifications of the persons reading and authenticating these Covid-19 "certifications" which, with overwhelming probability, will not be in their native language? The same "authorities" currently accepting this latest, laughable incarnation of a Covid-19 "health form"?

And if by some more ridiculousness exhibited by the Dominican Republic these certificates do actually begin to become the norm, the easily falsified (knowing who will be "authenticating" them at the DR airports) Covid-19 negative certificates will immediately start to appear. Certificates which will be offered for sale the moment the online "tigueres" get wind of the DR's latest epiphany in addressing the pandemic.

All this now about to be played out at the airport of your choice here in Shangri-La.

This is funny . . .

Actually, no.

It's tragic.

It would probably be better just to close the airports for a year or two.
Or maybe just have open SD and Punta Cana. Are they capable of managing something like this. They couldn’t manage the issue of legal residents entering during the first national emergency.

That was just a good health declaration form that you had to fill out affirming that you weren't sick. Two friends of mine had to fill it out when they arrived. It looks like they're getting serious now.

Getting serious them ? Or international pressure.

What's going to happen if you test positive? Are you going to be quarantined? Are they going to send you back on the next flight? Is an airline required to let you onboard if you test positive?

So many questions - so few answers.
