Anyone know where I can get a timer switch for a hot water heater? Went to four ferrateria's in sosua, Charamicos and la Union yesterday and no one has one.
Try the fairly new ferrateria on Feb 27 in Puerto Plata. Pretty sure our guy got ours there

basic home electrical....110 volts have one wire that is nuetral and one that is the hot wire rated at 110 volts. the nuetral is usually grounded at the meter. A ground wire at each plug is required in the real world but here it is an option so it is not widely used. 220 system get its 220 volts by hooking up to two separete circuts of 110 volts each and again the ground is avoided in this country. Another thing that is very rarely used by profesionals in this country is the small plastic marretes. Why would they spend 5 pesos on the little things when tape will do....tape will not do

For those who do not know what a marette is more commonly known as a wirenut, or twisted electrical connector in the states. It twists two or more wires together, they come color coded by size and can be used to connect 2-4 wires and different gauge wires.
More often here you will see just tape or lugs but they increase you chance of a short or shock vs wirenuts

when you say neutral you mean a ground ????
No a ground wire cares no current.
The purpose of the neutral wire is to complete the 120 volt AC circuit by providing the path back to the electrical panel where the neutral wire is connected and bonded to the earth ground. The neutral is an insulated wire because it is part of the circuit with electrical current.
