Hello
I travel frequently to DR but always stay less than a month. This time around though I plan to stay for almost 4 months.

I was told that I should easily get an extension of up to 4 months of my tourist visa. I wanted to ask if anyone has gone through this, do they normally approve such request to extend? And does it make sense to apply for a 4 months extension instead of 3 one month extensions?

Also, I have been told I can buy the return flight for 4 months later, actually just a little less than 4 months, and that at the immigration they will not say anything because they know that I can get a tourist visa extension for up to 4 months. Do you guys think that's an accurate statement?

Thank you very much,
Giulio

They don't ask for a return ticket very often.... rarely...
Some people buy a return and cancel it... within 24 hrs for free

The extension I'm not sure of.... government staff are mostly working....
and the government itself change this weekend.

There may be new policies

I believe you mean tourist card 30 days ( it’s not visa) you can apply online for extension but you need to have a return ticket to apply .

I simply pay the overstay fee and i always stay for 4-6 months. But I do believe you can extend the tourist card for an additional 30 or 60 days. These guys would know better than me since I'm not interested in that hassle.

Some airlines will prevent you from boarding if you
can not show proof of a return ticket.

That's when you buy the return and cancel

I maintain it is rarely asked for - we have discussed this before here
and that was the consensus..... hardly ever

Personally, I cannot remember the last time I was asked.
Honest John face perhaps
hahaha

The DR will never ask to see your return ticket. Never.

JetBlue(and perhaps others) require the return ticket to pump up their sales volume regardless of the cancellations. It has nothing to do with their compliance to anything related to entering the DR.

It's a complete jamjob.

All airlines are all required by the DR government to have passenger show they have a ticket to leave the DR.
Airlines can be severely fined if a passenger does not have such a ticket out.
Many airlines ignore this , JetBlue does not.

I have been asked when flying FTL to SDQ on Spirit a few times.
When flying AA not once.
