Blackouts are back, at least in the capital city. This is not usual. The Medina administration had maneuvered so that blackouts were the exception, not the rule.

El Dia reports that the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI) is operating with a deficit due to the maintenance and shut down of several generation plants.

One of the twin plants at Punta Catalina, the star of the Medina administration power solution, is out of service for a system glitch. Punta Catalina II contributes 375 MW. Other power companies are reporting maintenance works. Itabo II is out for scheduled maintenance.

A 300 MW CESPM plant is out and another three units of the CESPM network are shut down for the completion of conversion to natural gas. “The good news is that two of these units will enter the system in September. The other in October,” says Roberto Herrera, president of the...

Nothing to do with the current administration's light bill debt. I wonder how much they still owe? I remember when the Ede- mafia was crippling the public with shutdowns due to the government debt - millions. If Abinader Is not truly in our corner, and I feel he is, then these systematic pressure/extortion tactics will continue. Two of the most corrupt racket based organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean, PLD and Ede

In defense of the lame duck administration, they did have to pay for 600 employees for the first lady. You need to understand priorities.

It will be interesting to see how Abinader handles the electricity issue. There is no shortage of capacity these days, only a cash flow issue.

With all of the heads that will be rolling soon, they should be able to keep the generators happy.

That raises a question. Given there's no civil service here, does everybody at all the EDEs automatically lose their job? That would seem to not be the smartest thing, or it could be good in the long term.

Press has been highlighting his plans to merge several of these
bloated government agencies. Perhaps with fewer government
leeches on the payroll he can start turning the ship around. PLD
had 16 years to figure this out. Never happened.

In every govt. office there is a core of professional employees who seldom lose their jobs. There is also a bunch of employees who are "Botellas" who may or may not go to work every day; not even counting the ones who "share" their salary with superiors to guarantee their monthly check.

The EDE's are no different. There will be a lot of employees being let go very soon, but the bread and butter folks are usually protected.

The problem the new administration will have is getting rid of the worthless employees. Getting rid of them all at once is not a good idea but rest assured they won't be around much longer.

It would be nice to have a national grid system that resembles what is expected in the year 2020, not 1920.

Imagine a system of infrastructure and process that is up to date and actually works. Who would need all the contractors and consultants then? Who would the contractors and consultants kick back to? Thanks and don't forget to like and subscribe!
