The executive director of the Airport Department, Victor Pichardo ordered the continuing construction of the Barahona heliport. Grupo Orbe Dominicano is the company contracted to build the heliport. Pichardo says the airport is vital for health emergencies, resue, tourism and executive operations. Construction is 40% completed. The construction had stopped when a National State of Emergency was declared in March 2020 due to Covid-19. Pichardo said the heliport will be completed in weeks.
