So, I am now w/ ScotiaBank after the Progreso purchase.

Things are going pretty smoothly.... and we can get cash at Scotia or Popular ATM's

I went to a cajero y'day and it was empty - no dinero
BUT
3 minutes later, Scotia notified me of my withdrawal..... which didn't happen

I called the head office, and was told to check next day for the refund to the account

Tomorrow comes (today) and the site is down.....
called head office again - their system is down.

20 minutes to my local branch where they inform me that all is now good.... all fixed

I check - and Yes - money refunded, site working

Lots of people would complain about this 'run around'.... apparent poor management....

You can't argue w/ the system.... roll with it.... less grief

I'm out a 40 minute R/T but my problem is solved

I needed to be fixed.... car purchase tomorrow in SD..... can't have any issues !!

Expat fatigue.... you need to work on avoiding it
I started a thread on it a while ago

Why do you have to withdraw money? Why not do an interbank transfer to the sellers account? I haven't paid cash for a vehicle purchase in a long time.

Interesting, going to SD tomorrow as well to pick up my car. Did wire transfer last week bank to bank as original suggested here on DR1.

The seller has already processed my title transfer......
very - VERY - accommodating .....

Wants a handshake..... hands full of money !!!

WW is there an association with Scotia and Bank Popular now? As a Scotia bank account holder can you withdraw $ at bank popular ATM without fees?

I've used Scotia Bank in the Caribbean for years because they are on many of the islands throughout the Antilles chain.. They're also affiliated with BOA somehow, so transferring ACH funds are easy, and ATM withdrawal's are free. I've not had any issues WW.. Hopefully it's just a bump in the road and all will go smoothly from here.. No stress.. Let that be the other guys problem..

BOA is the USA free ATM service

Scotia is well established in the islands.... 90-100 yrs here in RD
Original 'merchant bankers' back in the day

On 2nd thought..... Astucia

YES... I have used my Cdn debit card free of charge

Scotia allows only one ATM/DEBIT card per account. I changed banks.
That's not true on a Canadian Scotia account. Wife and I have separate debit cards for one account. They are "linked" somehow in their system.
I can't comment on a Dominican Scotia account. That's why I asked about Canadian debit cards being free of charge at Popular ATM's

That's why I said - Give it a try - I dunno the answer
OR
Call the number on the back of the card to ask
OR
ask at a Scotia branch here

Creative thinking .....

ww, most cards will work at ANY machine. It's the ridiculous fees and surcharges that will be tacked on.
This of course, I know you are well aware of due to your banking experiences.
My question is, could you have confused Banco Popular with Banco Progreso, with whom Scotiabank acquired 97.44% of?

Firstly,
There is no more Progreso so they have NO ATM's.... not possible
All blended w/ Scotia
So there can be no confusion

Secondly,

They have agreed to share ATM's - easy way to expand your system at no cost.... Smart!

Popular y Scotiabank suman sus redes de cajeros automáticos para consulta y retiro

Good job.
Now, what about the fees?
ATM fees ?
Zero

Internal account fees?
I'm Cdn where banking fees easily 50%b of a bank's income

Most countries (USA incl) just dream of that
US has had that goal for years - years&years
