Thugs kidnapped two Dominican filmmakers and their Haitian interpreter in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The kidnappers seek US$2 million in ransom, EFE news agency reports. The news was confirmed by the Haitian film production company, Muska Group to EFE. The two Dominicans were working on a documentary. At the time of the kidnapping, they were escorted by the Haitian Police. Their expensive film-making equipment was also stolen.

How do you all think this will pan out?
I have an extended family member who was kidnapped in Colombia. For 11 days , he eventually escaped missing tow fingers.
From what he told me , being kidnapped is not a pleasant physical nor mental experience.
I wish these Dominicans well ..what kind of security was Haitian Police.

Think of Dominican local police but about half as capable. Then add 2 quarts of rum. Stir.

Last person kidnapped in Haiti that made the news was a young girl. It did not end well.

I know someone who was kidnapped in Haiti. He was an American volunteer working on a water filter project sponsored by a service club. Fortunately, they ended up letting him go.

It is best to stay away from failed states like Haiti.
The problem is that in this day and age it isn't enough to stay away from those places, but also finding a way to prevent that kind of dysfunctionality from spreading outwards, so to speak. Local criminals, like the warbands of old, eventually tire of the local turf and set their sights on greener pastures.

I strongly hope that our community board member Cobraboy is doing well.
Last heard from within here, he was working on a substantial film project of some sorts, which was supposed to include voyages into Haiti aboard motor bikes.

I do hope they catch those bandits and give them some justice. Maybe some of Dominicans finest can fast rope in, rescue the hostages and leave a "strong" message behind!!

As a matter of record, kidnapping industry in the DR is the least profitable and never ended in success of any type for the perpetrators.
The DR Police has an excellent record comes that.

In fact, they are already working on the case of the two Dominicans and Haitian nationals kidnapped in Haiti now.
