Bronx man had DNI ID, but it had not been renewed; DNI has cancelled 8,000 IDs

A man in the Bronx, New York arrested for drug trafficking had an ID of the Department of National Investigations (DNI), the local FBI. The DNI confirmed the department had issued the ID but in the past administration. On 19 July 2021, the DNI issued a statement explaining that around 8,000 IDs issued from 2016 to 2020 during the past administration are no longer valid.

The DNI confirmed that the DNI ID card Hector Morillo Morillo had on him when arrested in a drug operation in the Bronx on 11 June 2021 had been issued during the administration of Danilo Medina.

The DNI says that the new administration issued new IDs to its members. The DNI requested that the Ministry of Defense and the National Police confiscate any of the expired DNI cards when making arrests.
