The announcement that the two doses of Covid-19 vaccination would be required for using public transport and for access to many places has delivered the desired results. Thousands are again lining up to be vaccinated. The daily number of vaccines administered jumped from 21,699 on 8 October to 50,793 doses for the 16 October 2021 deadline. In the Dominican Republic already around 60% of the population is fully vaccinated, but the government has vaccine stocks for 100%+ and wants more people to get the jab.

The vaccines have spared the population a major spike in Covid-19 cases even with the entry of more aggressive variants. The Presidency has removed curfew restrictions nationwide and the new measures seek to motivate those that have not been vaccinated to get with it.
