In time for a possible increase in spread of Omicron over the 4-day Altagracia-Duarte long weekend, pharmacies around the country began to sell low cost antigen kits for people to test at home. The kits are available for around RD$300 at major pharmacy chains. The tests compare to RD$1,800 price the tests were selling for at the leading private labs. El Dia reports one leading private lab has cut the price of its test to RD$900.

Travelers still need to get the test done at a certified lab because the certification is required by migration authorities.

The government offers the test for free at medical centers and universities nationwide, but usually long lines have been needed to get the test. Given the decline in Omicron cases, the lines are now lesser at the free test centers.
