Malecon expansion for Santo Domingo East

Last week, the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) announced works to improve the Santo Domingo East boardwalk attraction for residents in eastern Santo Domingo and visitors. The Columbus Lighthouse and the National Aquarium are two of the key attractions in the area.

The eastern side of Greater Santo Domingo Malecón is part of the long boardwalk that continues on to the Las Americas International Airport from the National District in the West. The Ozama River divides the National District from Santo Domingo East.

Tourism Minister Collado sees the new works as an extension of the Malecón project, a major commitment he first spearheaded when he was Mayor of Santo Domingo (2016-2020). He highlighted the Malecón improvements are a continuation of the National District’s Malecon project from the Montesino Monument and the Colonial City, across the river.
