With Decree 445-22, issued on 16 August 2022, President Luis Abinader changed all the commanders of the Army, Armada (Navy) and Air Force, but left the Minister of Defense Carlos Diaz Morfa. Prior to his appointment, Diaz Morfa was the military assistant to former President Hipolito Mejia (2000-2004), an influential member of the ruling political party, the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
The new appointments in the military are:National Army: Major General Carlos Antonio Fernandez Onofre replaces Major General Julio Ernesto Florian Perez.
Armada (Navy): Rear Admiral Francisco Antonio Sosa Castillo was promoted to vice admiral and appointed commandant general of the Navy, replacing Vice Admiral Ramon Gustavo Betances Hernandez.
