A longtime friend of Mr AE lives near us. For decades he’s had lots of beehives on his property, they belong to someone else, he cares for them. They take honey away in 55 gallon drums.

Yesterday afternoon he walked over with a tray loaded with honeycombs for us. Honey dripping out. Some dead and live bees. I took it inside, grabbed tongs and transferred it all into a large covered Tupperware.

Now what? I opened it this morning, saw a live bee and closed it quickly. These are black bees, what I thought were wasps. I know some people prize honeycombs, but I don’t know what to do with these. A bit of honey is now in bottom of the container (like 1/4”). Do we squeeze them to get the honey? Use as is????? Help!

Once you get all the panels out of the hives, you cut off the wax.
Then you put the panels in a type of home-made washing machine to get the honey out by centrifuge force.

So, of course, today or tomorrow, I will be making Jalao...... love that stuff.
Recipe:
There's a Haitian man who walks around with peanuts and brittle and Jalao for sale. But it is too darn sweet for me, so I buy it and give it away to others who think it's good.
