Sosua and the whole north coast was the Punta Cana of the DR in the 70's and 80's...There's more, much more to Sosua other than putas. After they clean up the putas you'll see it firsthand!

After false alarms on arresting Johns, any insight on when the "after" you mention will actually take place?

We have a niece in SD who is about 20 now, studying law. She is tall with a perfect figure. At a family gathering, she came in with her brothers and parents, greeted us each individually with hugs and kisses. I told her how nice she looked, that she could be a model. Her father, Mr. AE's brother, reacted immediately and snapped at me that she wasn't going to be a model, she was going to be a lawyer. Later I asked my husband why he reacted that way, that I thought it was a compliment, and he didn't know. Of course, he hasn't lived in DR for almost 40 years. Now I understand that my BIL probably took it as an insult. After all these years, I'm still learning.

I don't think he took it as an insult. Most likely it's an old argument between father and daughter because she's said to him that she wants to be a model and he said no.

But besides that, yeah, the "Model" cuento has been around for very long. And let me tell you, those "models" sure make more money than any lawyer, and live the high roller life with their "agents" most of the time. The cousin of my ex-wife was a "model". Her facebook was always full of pictures of her flying in private planes, sailing on big boats, all over the world. She was only 22 and already owned an apartment in Av. Anacaona and drove a Audi...and you never saw a picture of her in a magazine, website, tv comercial, etc. So the "modeling" business could be very profitable.
I guess most of the girls in Sosua don't quite make it to that kind of life, but they probably say at home that they work at a resort, or as a waiter.

i was just fooling about. i think Tambo is as serious as cancer.

If I lived in Manhattan, I think I'd enjoy having Tambo as a friend, got to know him fairly well back when DR1 had a Chat Room. [I really miss that feature here]. Something tells me the same thing about you. The fact that you can make a good NY Cheesecake convinced me. I think Tambo would have to go to Junior's to buy me one - and I believe he would do that.

Maybe it's the smart-a$$ New Yorker in you two that I identify with. Ditto Bronxboy. I suspect that some DR1ers, especially the Brits, don't "get" NY sarcasm.

I have a serious cheescake recipe locked up, my Mom's recipe, yes it also involves Nilla wafers as crust, like "G"'s recipe, and a lot of cream cheese.
I would deliver it to you AE if you maka da gravy on a Sunday!

The recipe is hand written by my Mom, and never leaves my sister and I.

A hookers union! Hahaa I have heard it all now! Could you imagine ..hooker says to client " sorry that's not in my contract! ".." I can't do that, I am only at apprentice level"...." sorry its time for my break " imagine trying to get them to go on a strike!!! Hahaha .....but ,why do some people have to be governed like sheep? Free will!

Forming a collective organization for the empowerment of these Women is in no way limiting their "free will". It is a way of providing for their protection, education and advancement in a society where the poor rarely find opportunity for either.

Nobody is talking about 'governing' these people. We're talking about empowering them and what's wrong with a Hooker saying to a client "That's not in my contract"? Do you go to the dentists office and demand a hand job (which is not in HIS contract)? Service providers should be empowered to set the terms of their services, operate in a work environment which is free from pimps, bad cops and shady customers and expect to progress economically and educationally to the point where they are no longer limited to working in the sex industry but are capable of sustaining viable business interests of their own and provide for the needs of their families.

I don't know where you're coming from with these remarks but surely you can agree that if prostitution as a legitimate endeavor can actually provide a way out of poverty rather than a means for Women to be used up and thrown away as they age through the advancement of their collective interests then it can solve problems at personal, regional and national levels.

Providing Women with venues, districts, clubs in which to provide sex services free of predators is not a new idea and it works in many parts of the developed world (Germany Netherland, Australia, Hungary, Nevada, etc.). It gets the hookers off the streets (along with the scammers and scandalous skanks), provides needed income and serves a social purpose.

One thing is clear,
Licda. Ilana Neumann opening a playground in La Union for a photo op is not helping the poor.
When adults want to continue their lost education at night school they get 3hrs. 4 times a week.
Often electricity is out so classes are cancelled. Computers are not available in the classroom.
How about installing a generator and providing computers? Make it mandatory for children to attend school.
Politicians and investors are self serving, so far education and employment opportunities are not flowing to the average Dominican in the Sosua area.
Affluent landowners are not pumping their cash into the community, but will do so after the prostitutes leave.....what a joke!
Walking along the pastures of Playa Laguna I have never been propositioned, not even by a cow.
Sosua already is a family destination, of course they are Dominican families.
Children walk down Pedro Clisante to Colegio Luis Hess every day without being molested or abducted.
The lower class family tourist has no money to travel to Sosua.
The middle class where it still exists and the upper class has other destinations worldwide.
US and CAN tourists have two weeks vacation annually and will stay at a PC- AI.

ho union? how would you go about calculating their liquidation?

1st of all, get that "union" paradigm out of the equation. Is the American Bar Association a "union"? Is the AMA a "union"?

Think of this as a professional association which is empowered to make recommendations to local and national governments on the application of the world's oldest profession within their jurisdictions and act as an advocacy group for the practitioners of the trade.

Try not to apply 'widget' theory here. There is a hella lot of cash in the Pum-Pum trade and the government is missing out on a lot of much needed revenue so it would be in its interest to promote safe and equitable environments in which to offer these services. You don't have to look far. In Sint Maarten (where, BTW many Dominican non-Pro's do 90 day stints as 'waitresses') there are licensed clubs where libation and female accompaniment are offered in a safe and well regulated environment. The providers are medically screened before, during and after their tours and the money which the Girls generate goes mostly (unlike the casas of the D.R.)...to the Girls. The bulk of their earnings are held in trust and deposited in bank accounts for them upon their return with a small stipend available immediately to support their families back home. I know a few Dominicanas who he saved enough money in 90 days to start their own businesses, put their kids in decent schools and create decent, sustainable lives for themselves.

Why do they have to leave the country to find this kind of opportunity? Why, in their own country are the pimps, touts and taxi drivers the beneficiaries of most of their earnings? Why is the government not taking advantage of this income stream and doing it's part to support the workers?

I'm still recovering from the shock of 1000 hookers. All this time I thought I was meeting good honest sexy chicas that thought I was handsome with a good line of rap. When they talked about money they all said it was for their sick mother and that their husband was killed in a moto accident.
I feel used !!

grey, my post was a joke :) i totally agree with you that legalizing and taxing poon business is a great idea, just like legalizing and taxing drugs. shame that governments of this world miss a change to make tons of money for the sake of decency. it's not that persecuting hoing and drugs puts a total halt on those activities.

Somewhere on the island there is an aging fat Girl who is in serious need of dental realignment who really does think that you're 'handsome and have a great line of rap'. Even better, you can count on the fact that when you're not on the island she'll keep herself only for you and she won't ask for more than she honestly needs to survive until she joyfully welcomes your return.

Be careful what you wish for...

We have a niece in SD who is about 20 now, studying law. She is tall with a perfect figure.
Would she like to meet a handsome, bilingual 28-30 y.o. lawyer in SD with a solid practice and very recognizable family name?

A partner is now actively "in the market"...
