Nope! It's just "easy money" they can make without being "ingrained" for the job.

If that was the case, there wouldn't be prostitution in Japan and believe you me, there's more going on in Japan than in the DR when it comes down to forms of prostitution, underage, etc...

Prostitution has more to do with sexual freedoms and what is deemed ok by cultures. In the DR it's OK to have a wife and kids, whilst having a few ladies on the side. It takes away the pressure from the lady of the house who has to put up with the kids, the home and sometimes their own career, let alone tend to the husband's sexual needs on call.

In Japan was the same since older times when men sought the services of a Geisha. Then came the parlors, hot baths, etc... Its still acceptable today just as before.

In places like the USA is more about hypocrisy than what not. Prostitution permeates the USA from the top of government to the plain worker. Worst than in the DR.

On paper prostitution is still illegal in Japan.
Birth rates are down, the decline in Japan's population set another record in 2012 with the number of deaths exceeding births for the sixth year in a row.
In the DR the government is threatening a new model based on persecution as in CAN and the US, while prostitution is still legal.

From DR News 12.7.12
Too many teenage pregnancies

Despite having a Plan to Prevent Teenage Pregnancies in place over two years, the DR continues to be among the five countries with most teenage pregnancies in Latin America and the Caribbean. According to United Nations Population Fund statistics, 22.1% of Dominican teenagers are pregnant or have been pregnant. Of the total, 75% are among the economically poor. Azua (37%), Baoruco (35%) and Santiago (29%) have the highest pregnancy rates. The study showed that 50% of the teenagers do not use any method of birth control.

The cultural net effect is, the poor in the DR suffer due to the lack of education and money, quite a different story than Japan..
Dominicans openly enjoy sex without the hypocrisy of the USA and Canada.
Condoms and contraception are available but often not used for various reasons.
As far as I know tubal ligation is not legal in the DR for women without health problems.

Young people are discouraged from family planning because the Pope needs more poor people. His brand of Voodoo sells best where the populations are poor and uneducated.

tubal ligation is routinely performed on women over 30 with 2 or more kids. due to the high rate of c-sections it is simply not advisable to have more pregnancies so the procedure is written off as "health reasons". i understand that in itself it is not legal, that is you cannot have it done because you simply want to.

As you know the DR has a very high rate of unnecessary c-sections.
Women's health issues, with the poor and uneducated suffering most, the cause "husbands",national laws and the church.
Prostitution as a quick accessible income for the poor and uneducated.

PLOS Collections: Measuring Coverage in MNCH: Validating Women
In Ghana, maternal mortality is high at 378 per 100,000 births in 2007 [11]. Skilled attendance at birth in Ghana has increased over the past 20 years from 41% to 60% [12], most of which has occurred since 2003 when the Ghana Health Service began fee exemption for delivery services [13]. According to the Ghana DHS survey, the cesarean section rate increased from 4.5% to 6.4% between 1990 and 2005, with greater than 10-fold differentials in the rate by wealth quintile. As of 2005, the cesarean section rate for 40% of the population was under the WHO recommended minimum of 5%, and under 1% for the poorest quintile [12]. In contrast, the Dominican Republic is a country with nearly universal coverage of antenatal care and institutional delivery (>95%) [14], high maternal mortality compared to countries of similar income (179 per 100,000 live births between 2004 and 2008) [8], and rapidly increasing cesarean section rates. Between 1990 and 2006, the cesarean section rate in the Dominican Republic doubled from 22% to 44% [12].

i am not sure you are confirming or negating... what i wanted to say is that i rarely see tubal ligation done as a separate procedure, as a result of ongoing health issues. nearly all cases of sterilization i know about (all family and associates) have had it done following second, third or sometimes fourth birth. there were no clear indications other that unwillingness to use any protection.

i know that it is not recommended that a woman goes through many c-section but that alone could be dealt with constant use of contraception. i know many polish women who had c-sections and they simply use a pill or IUD to prevent further pregnancies, because tubal ligation is illegal in poland and very rarely performed.

Fascinating. A man can legally choose to be sterilized in this country but it is illegal for a woman.

I like sosua , but come on , its really becoming to much, all these prostitutes. I cant even go and eat something or drink something there alone or i would have to bring my girlfriend so they leave me alone and give her angry looks. And believe me they come from far to earn their buck. But its understandable its and easy meal and money.

Hookers never bother me. They all walk past me muttering cheapie, cheapie.................... In the past i would always ask how much and then counter with " i only want you for the night, not all week ". I try to explain that dos mil is a weeks pay and requires a half day on saturday but they walk away before i finish.
