Sosua and the whole north coast was the Punta Cana of the DR in the 70's and 80's...There's more, much more to Sosua other than putas. After they clean up the putas you'll see it firsthand!

NEVER thought that I would ... hope and support you Pichardo. On this I'm 100% with you and will back you with what ever you need. (Within MY reasoning.) LOL

I am just saying that their money is every bit as good as yours, and they have a right to command a certain respect, just like their foreign and Dominican johns, none of whom are currently breaking any laws. And certainly you and other Sosua long-time residents have every right to try to convert Sosua to the way you like it, using any legal and financial means possible. Go vote with your money and lobby DR senators to declare prostitution illegal aside from designated red lights districts or something.

Right. Let's start with the "go vote" thing. Where do you live?

I've been involved in the legal system here many years but ONLY on one side or the other in a legal matter. VOTE?

GO AWAY!

Their money IS as good as mine. No contest. My point is that we have a very large, huge amount of money that we DON'T spend.

Again........ do you really want to compare who spends what?

Can't turn back the time, who in their right mind would choose Sosua over Punta Cana as a tropical beach destination, today? I can see it as a good retirement community maybe, but as a tourist destination? - that ship has sailed...

WRONG! Sosua has a lot of history, some old charm, a good beach, some wonderful opportunities to bring back some fun tourist interests for everyone. It worked years ago and worked very well. Something changed. If you look at the very LARGE retirement community that lives here you would see the lost revenue just cause... we don't go out. The tourist oriented tours, shops and the family rental type places (that sit vacant now); those of us that just don't go into Sosua due to the last 5 to 10 years of change.

It would be easy (not so easy but not that difficult) to change Sosua back into an all around family oriented that makes money for everyone and thus increase the value of real estate, rentals and services.

The hidden and "not going into town" that are staying away and out of Sousa until it changes, or we move, would most likely triple the money spent in town .......... for a nice relaxing, uncomplicated day of walking around and shopping into the evening.

BTW: Property taxes on just ONE of my properties went from P.D. $90K to $125K last year while values are dropping. How much did all the hookers combined pay in taxes?

I'm NOT sorry to state this! You sex tourist and your interests have ruined Sosua.

first of all, have a care when you start throwing accusations around. you don't know me, so go easy on the 'you sex tourists' thing. i have been coming to the DR since the days of Balaguer, and i have lived here permanently for a decade. so watch your mouth, please. secondly, every town has history, since the country is the same age in Bonao as it is in Sosua. the beach sucks, relative to a few dozen others in the country, and a few hundred in the region. ( i guess you forgot that prospective tourists can go to other countries) Sosua has nothing special. nothing.

you are just bitter because your precious real estate value has probably taken a hit. get over it. you are not that important, in the grand scheme of things. if you want the girls to move out of YOUR backyard, why don't you give them all a letter of recommendation , so they will have it easier when they apply for a job at IBM?

Then you have seen the drastic down turn concerning Sosoa. I'm sure that Balaguer will support you. Ahhh. How old are you?

You state that you have here a decade, but you are new being only a decade BUT very much saying that you lived here with Balaguer? (check your facts please.)

Do you KNOW the history of Sosua? How and who built Sosua? What they went through?

I bought my real estate WAY before you arrived WELL before you got here a decade ago... or was that when Balaguer was President?

I have NO problem moving uninvited people off of my property.

GEEEEZZZZ. Newbies that want to rewrite history. BTW: this was NOT aimed at anyone so it is only you that felt "picked on" and just had to speak up. I rest my case.

So, how did this happen? Why did single men start coming here in the first place? Pretty girls offering their services....just like the rest of the country. The fact is, Sosua has nothing to offer families when you have areas like Samana and Punta Cana. If you take out the single men, Sosua can only be a sleepy little town that attacts retirees...or bums like me. Sosua's days have passed, it is the nature of tourism.

do you think that i would leave myself open for a nitwit like you to pick me apart? go read the posting again, since you appear to be slow on the uptake. i said i have been coming to the DR since the days of Balaguer, and i have been living here permanently for a decade. need an explanation? here goes. in the early days, such as the 80s, i did not live here permanently. see how easy that was?

brilliant observations. Sosua, like POP, is a victim of the tourism life cycle. the ladies of easy virtue rescued Sosua, or it would currently be a trivia question.

let's not joke here. sosua has nothing going on. for history you'd be better off visiting SD, unless you are researching the movement of jews during and after ww2. for beaches, oh my, hundreds of better beaches all over DR. there is nothing of value there: small, sleepy town on the ocean front, nothing more, nothing less. i am not going to go into this whole ho thingy, that's not something i'm into. but do not tell me sosua holds something of interest to turistas that makes it stand out among other dominican destinations.

I was out last night and seen 2 to 3 hundred but not a thousand. Maybe I should look in another part of town. As for the reason I live in Sousa it is because of the women that come here. I enjoy the company of a twenty year old lady to that of an over weight women that comes from North America. If you don't like Sosua for whatever reason don't come here. I can assure you that you will not be missed. As for scaring away tourist I seen over a hundred last night that were having a good time. Would they be here if it wasn't for the ladies ? If the tour operators are "overwhelmed" maybe they should move to....???? Where in the world can you not find one, or a thousand.

Prostitutes are the driving force behind Sosua's economy; if they disappear it will certainly collapse. ;)

what exactly does Sosua have that would make it a tourist attraction? please explain it to me..

Not much, from what I've seen. The adult entertainment is the best thing it has going, and some want to see that disappear. I wonder, if they did, what they would replace it with?

With all the arguing about the chicas in sosua, I still haven't seen someone point out what other options sosua has.

Sosua, like the rest of the DR, doesn't have any other options. I mean, one possible option would be for Dominican fathers to raise and provide for their daughters, so that many of them wouldn't be forced into prostitution. Another possible option would be for Dominican society to take a cue from the Taiwanese and look to generate money from something other than tourism, you know, like building a computer company? But these options are all crazy and insane, I mean it makes no sense for a Dominican father to raise his daughter, and why would Dominicans want to build a multi-billion dollar computer company like Acer? Naw, that wouldn't make any sense!

Reading this debate and drivel make me wax nostalgic for the days when Moby Dick had live music to go with the many aggressive ladies of the evening within it's doors. And when Merengue Bar was a refuge to go to without hookers inside, they molested you from the sidewalk but weren't allowed in. Even then the talk of a "family resort" was so unrealistic then, just too many girls and too many willing boys with money.
Ahhh nostalgia, we can put this post in a bottle and it will come back in 10 years still floating.

No point in any of us getting too serious. These posts will have 0 influence on what decisions are made regarding the future of Sosua, hard as it may be for some to believe.

sosua is not going to die without hos, that's another exaggeration, only the other way. sosua caters to other tourists too, to expats, to the locals. it's not pepillo salcedo, for the love of god. not that many hos in nagua, cabrera, rio san juan, none is a ghost town yet.

For those who say that Sosua was a tourist destination back in the days, Please
state exactly why it was so? What was so appealing to tourists? I'm just curious.

Correction: Dominican women need to start using contraception, so there would be no need
for unwanted, illegitimate kids. It's more the fault of these women than the men. The
fathers' many times have never lived under the same roof with these women. Many of these
children are the products of a one night stand.

Father Chip would not approve of the use of contraception now, would he?

i can imagine the appeal, especially for american and canadian tourists: short flight, cheap, hot, lots of booze and they already new few words in spanish from cartoons about speedy gonzalez. what's not to like? the fall of sosua is not in hos, we talked about it many times.

flights to the NC went up in price, the hotels in the east are newer and prettier, sosua beach ain't postcard perfect. tourism shifted from the north to the east. desperation moved in. what else can you do when you have zero skills and abilities apart from strong coochie grip? sell the coochie! the easier it was to get laid the more f**k tourists came. the bigger the need for punnaney the more willing to do the job.
