The taxi drivers here have always been referred to as a mafia type organization. Now with very few tourists and everybody looking to make money, it's probably going to get worse.

I hope the Uber driver is ok.
Crazy rates for a taxi in Bavaro Punta Cana. Now you know why this happened.

Lots of good marketing material here......................but for the Mexico Tourist Board..................not the DR.

Tourists, especially the AI type, move like schools of fish.....................witness the alleged tainted alcohol incidents/tourist deaths.............the alleged tourist assault(s) at a resort.........and the tourists who met their untimely demise while headed to the airport........................all had a harsh negative impact on tourism in 2019.

Exactly.

But how harshly AI tourists react is directly correlated to the amount of publicity the issue gets in the press.............and 2019 was a down year for tourism in the DR because of those incidents mentioned above.......and an up year for tourism in Cancun.

again,
it is simply a government, which did to date not step up to do the slightest thing about it.
to legalize Uber or any other online booking taxi driver platform,
bring for them the same regulations and obligations and taxes and insurances to be paid exactly as it is in place for every traditional Taxi/Private Transfer Company in the same country,
or declare them illegal and take them off the streets immediately.
but nobody of the governemnt/in charge departments is doing anything,
which 100% means that somebody There gets paid nice bucks to not do a thing.
that's the simple fact of things down here, and Luis A. is with his people NOT bulletprooved to anything of it,
as obviously prooved by the UBER Shit.
if the Authorities do not step in with a clear ruling/Law for the Taxi/Transfer Sector,
then theySURE will get bad press due huge botherings of tourists and even hurt tourists soon.
something that would contradict their wished for running Tourism Reactivating Plan.
you can not run such plan and leave, since a year already, one of it's PRIME sectors completely out in violence.
there is no tourism without transportation, plain and simple, and nobody of the Big Shot Guys did move a finger on that problem.
what sound's trouble, move's to trouble and get's not solved, will end in Big Trouble.
