Culture Minister Carmen Heredia has not caught the disease, but there is a spread of Covid-19 at the Ministry of Culture. Deputy Minister Giovanny Cruz confirmed to Proceso online that the cases are of people employed at the main Santo Domingo office on the Malecon. All employees have been tested, even those that work outside of the main office.
The tests were routine. Cruz said the tests were routine after reports of positive-testing employees at other ministries. The tests were mandatory for all Ministry of Culture employees. “The truth is that we are surprised at the number of infected people. So far about 12 people are positive and we are waiting for more results,” said Cruz, a well-known playwright.He said several in-person meetings have been suspended and many more are now working from home. Department directors are on the list of those infected.
