I hear that the DGM site now allows the purchase of extended stay visas - 120 days

They want the biometric page of your passport, your entry stamp & your return ticket

I expect they attach the extension to your passport.

https://servicios.migracion.gob.do/

2 offers

30- 90 days = 2500 DOP

90-120 days = 4000 DOP

It's true, it's true, it's true. Or at least it appears to be. 120 days is certainly better than only 30, but still misses the "snowbird" visa range of staying for up to 6 months.

This begs the question of what will now happen to people that overstay the 30 day tourist card now that they have this option.

Is this not the same as the exit fee fines for overstay. Why bother? Just pay the fine when you leave?

They have not yet gotten rid of the exit fee page for those who don't request ahead of time to stay up to 120 days legally. Keep in mind, this page is actually for people with residency that did not renew and need to pay overstay fees when renewing:

https://www.migracion.gob.do/Menu/Index/21

Perhaps they never will. Or they may provide some incentive to pay up front.

Journey 466, one reason to pay up front for 120 days is that you are legally in the country for that period. Perhaps there will be more reasons.

Perhaps this is the precursor to not paying at the airport.....

This is how you pay...

Witness residency renewals.... now done only online....

Change.... automation

No way to know the further implications. But yes, it certainly is a change.

It appears to leave the over 120 day visitor in an awkward position.....

Perhaps that's the point - identify the chronic interlopers...
those who go beyond 'visitor' status

Lest we forget --- residency

Experience I came across
========================================
Hi everyone

Just tried and eventually successfully applied for an extension

Please note once you've got to the link https://servicios.migracion.gob.do/ translate into English
It will ask for your passport no, and email address. You will then receive a reply with your dossier no, and a pin number You will need these 2 to proceed.

It then asks to press the button called "form" This will take you to a new page " Personal Information" where you need to fill in the details. Be aware before starting this section on the left hand side of this page, top where its says "Extension for Tourists" below it says "Apply or Check Status" Press the latter and then you can start completing the page. Eventually you will get to another page where you are asked to upload copy of passport and return ticket. This can be either JPEG or PDF

Once you've done that you will get an email confirming your application and basically it says "watch this space for news"

We're all amateurs here....

Buy payingbefore you break the rules is different than paying after you have done so.

One is an application to extend to extend your stay.... the other is extending without permission.....IMO

30 days plus an extention of 120 days gives 150 days, its 5 months, so I think this for snowbirds is way much better than before, if dont want stay ilegal just need to cut vacations 1 month.

Hello to all. My name is Cynthia Comprés, immigration attorney at Guzmán Ariza.

To clarify: this is not a permit or an extension of the visa. The visa can only be regulated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Immigration regulates the period you are allowed to stay in the country according to the type of visa and your time of entry.

Windeguy and William Webster are correct: this is paying the overstay penalty via the Immigration office's web page, instead of the airport's immigration, or paying before the return trip to your country. Please keep in mind that there have been cases that the airport's immigration don't recognise this payment and you may have to do it again, but it is very rare.

This fee only applies to the first time residency applicants, business or tourist visas, as it pertains to the Visa's validity and allowed stay. A legal resident doesnt need to pay overstay.

Gracias Cynthia

A question,
with this 'allowed' stay.... are there less problems with police/etc ?

Is there any benefit to paying online to paying on exit -
I suppose that's a better way to ask

So is this a process that applies to all tourists to allow them to stay for up to 120 days?
What will happen if they want to stay longer than 120 days from now on?

And does this make the stay of a tourist "legal" for up to 120 days?

This is extension to visa you entered to become legal from home country...
