The games will be held at the Cibao stadium. Apparently, the hotels are already booked. From today's Listin, am reading that the Venezuelan team has chosen the Hodelpa Gran Almirante. The Puerto Ricans and the Mexicans will be in the Courtyard Marriott. The Dminicans will be in the Centro Plaza. The arbiters will be in the Aloja Sol.

There are many hotel rooms in Puerto Plata, about 40 minutes to the north or in Bonao, about 40 minutes to the south.

If you will be commuting, we recommend that you befriend a taxi driver and pay for his ticket and have him go with you. Night time driving is not recommended in the DR.

Thanks for the advice! I just checked airline tickets - prices are not that bad at this point - around $400 from DCA, as usual. I guess we need to start planning early!

Ok...we'll start making airline reservations soon!!!!

Thanks for the heads up, Dolores!

Santiago lacks hotels to accomodate all the tourist. Puerto plata all inclusive is the way to go. transportation by bus is very comfortable to Santiago.

you think there is a bus running back to Puerto Platta at 11pm at night??????

I really doubt it.

I went to a bunch of finals games last year in Santo Domingo and Santiago...and the games got over after 10 pm each time.....as a matter of fact during the week, the only thing to do after the game was go to the casino , because the curfew had closed everything else.

As I understand there are less hotels in Santiago than SD? Should I start looking for one and try to make a reservation that far in advance? I really want to see Santiago and attend at least one baseball game. Do any of the DR1 members own hotels where I can stay? I already have an airline ticket and know the dates when I will be there.

my buddy owns a hotel in La Vega called the DEL RAY......La Vega is about a 20 minute ride from the airport.....so make that 40 minutes from the ballpark. I have never been to it, but they tell me it is a business type hotel, and its nice.

there are plenty of hotels in santiago, it is just that some are small and dingy......plus i bet you could make arraingements with some of the cabanas for continuous stays.

I dont think they have any idea what days the games are...it would have to be risky to book this far in advance if you have a small window of time to visit. If you book for two weeks you may cover some of the games.

Has anyone actually seen a posting of the weeks the series will run?

the prices vary depending on if its the master bedroom or the guest bedroom:ninja::ninja::ninja:

There was a previous thread about Moca hotels and it got little action....I looked in the phone book and there were three listed......

anyopne in santiago can look in the phone book and give an idea how many hotels are in the greater santiago area.

I hate AIs and don't need anything fancy - just in a safe area where I could go running any time. It was a lot of fun walking and jogging along Malecon in SD.

all the major hotels in santiago are booked as someone stated. my salvadoran friend called for me and confirmed. i emailed some resorts in POP and some said they are taking reservations for Feb and some said they're not.

i forgot to check the Colonial in santiago but i'm sure it is booked also..

Guys, really...come on...the hotels only SAY their booked for Feb. '08...'cause they know full well they can jack up their prices SKY HIGH for those dates...

I am willing to bet money there will be hotel rooms available for a VERY HIGH PRICE during those dates in Feb.

Let's wait and see...or start making alternative plans...you don't have to stay in a hotel in Santiago...

We stayed in POP in 2003, 'rented' a driver w/car for the day, went to an Aguilas/Licey game in Santiago, (of course paid for the driver's tickets, food and just a couple beers also) had a GREAT time, and he drove us back after the game...

We might end up doing the same thing next year...

The tickets are on sale now at the Aguilas office. US$335 for the "palco" seats and US$300 for the "preferencia"(upper level) seats. Tickets won't be sold in advance for the bleachers - see my previous post in this thread for the phone #.

thanks chip.....

That means I wont be going...I am not paying $300-$330 for seats that I am constantly chewing on my knees in..... have sat in the best seats in the stadium.....and they are not worth the money they ask....

I paid up to about $100 per ticket for the Dominican finals games....maybe id pay $150.....$300?? keep em

I might feel bad if the Aguilas repeat though.... ha ha ha

maybe Ill spring for some bleacher seats for me and my Gfs family if they are NOT too crazy....

We will be organizing vans and buses from Puerto Plata for anyone wanting to stay here and go to the games. We are working on advance blocks of tickets as well!

PM me to get put on a list for further information.
